First home buyers snap up Parkdale pad
A pair of first home buyers will soon call Parkdale home after placing the winning bid at an online auction on Thursday.
The couple beat out two other bidders to take home the keys to the four-bedroom property, which sold under the hammer for $1.24m. First home buyers
Buxton Hampton East director and auctioneer Noel Susay said they only held two open inspections for the 9A Evan St home before the state went into its sixth Covid-19 lockdown.
But he said after receiving strong interest from buyers, they decided to proceed with the virtual sale, which had originally been scheduled for Saturday.
“We had good numbers through the campaign and we were fortunate to have some buyers who had come through at those opens who were interested,” Mr Susay said.
“We had 24 people register for the auction and three bidders the whole way through.”
Mr Susay said the auction kicked off with a vendor bid of $1m, before the property was called on the market at $1.2m.
He said the new buyers were thrilled to purchase in the area, which is known for its good schools and proximity to nature.
“It’s a big home, it’s walking distance from the beach and shops and parks — all these things are really important to people now with lockdown,” Mr Susay said.
“The buyers wanted to get in before Christmas. They’re going to live in there and they might do some (renovating) over time.”
He said the vendor, who has lived at the property for decades and is downsizing to Queensland, was “rapt” with the sale.
The home’s north-facing orientation, 422sq m block and timber details were other drawcards, he said.
